Bibb County school bus, 18-wheeler crash but no major injuries. Here’s what we know

A Bibb County school bus was in a minor crash with an 18-wheeler on Tuesday, officials say.

A Bibb County School District bus carrying about 35 high school students Tuesday afternoon was involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler on the interstate, school officials confirmed.

The “minor accident” occurred just before 3 p.m. at the Interstate 16 exit for Spring Street, school officials said.

Only one student reported injuries, according to district spokesperson Stephanie Hartley.

“The student was checked on the scene but did not seek medical attention immediately from the scene. The scene was cleared with minor damage to the mirror of the bus,” Hartley said in an email Tuesday.

After being checked out on the scene, the student went home, authorities said.

Both vehicles were making a left turn at the same time, which led the back of the 18-wheeler to hit the bus’ mirror, authorities added.

The crash caused traffic congestion on the interstate around 2:20 p.m., according to Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.
