Big Brother US host Julie Chen Moonves is addressing everything that went wrong during this week's live show.

The American cousin of the classic UK version of Big Brother is actually going ahead this summer in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, albeit with an All-Stars theme featuring housemates already familiar with the game.

CBS gave the show a two-hour premiere launch on Wednesday (August 7) – and, well, things didn't go very well. The Head of Household trials weren't easy for the housemates to complete quickly, and there were points where Julie threatened to evict housemates to get them to listen to instructions.

The biggest snafu was building the whole episode to a Have and Have-Nots twist, something that should be very familiar to fans of the UK series. Select housemates would be forced to move into a windowless room of squalor for the week.

Unfortunately, when Have-Not housemates Ian, Kevin, Memphis and Nicole A tried entering their room, the door was locked! As a result, Julie had no choice but to send them all back to the living room while her team worked out the technical problems.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly following the premiere, Julie was quizzed on whether the Big Brother production team had ever managed to get the Have-Not room open.

"Yes, but I am hiding in there now and I have locked it again because I am so horrified at how that played out on live national TV... and on premiere night," she admitted.

The presenter then added: "Hey, ya live and ya learn. I wanted to make it a challenge and say on the fly, 'Whoever can get that darn door open won't have to sleep in there tonight!' Again, joke was on us... expect the, well, you know the rest of the line, Dalton!"

Big Brother USA continues on Sunday (August 9) on CBS… with a recorded episode!
