Kaos, an upcoming Netflix dark comedy starring Billie Piper and Jeff Goldblum, has unveiled a brand new trailer.

The series, which has been created by The End of the F***ing World writer Charlie Covell, serves as a contemporary take on Greek mythology, with the all-powerful Zeus (Goldblum) beginning to self-destruct after he realises he may be mortal.

The stacked cast for the series, which is due to premiere later this month (August 29), also includes Janet McTeer, David Thewlis, Eddie Izzard, Cliff Curtis, Killian Scott and Debi Mazar, with the details of Piper’s cameo role currently undisclosed.

Additional cast members include Rakie Ayola, Stephen Dillane, Aurora Perrineau, Nabhaan Rizwan, Misia Butler and Stanley Townsend, with various Greek gods - including Hades, Poseidon, Orpheus and Medusa - being represented on screen.

“Having long enjoyed his status as king of the gods, Zeus’s reign has never been truly threatened,” reads the logline. “That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead.

“Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the god of gods - seeing signs everywhere - starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried.

“Zeus’s one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus (Dillane), is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure.)”

Described as a “bold, darkly comic, contemporary take on Greek mythology, exploring love, power, and life in the underworld”, Kaos will consist of eight episodes in total, with directing duties split between Georgi Banks-Davies and Runyararo Mapfumo.

Kaos premieres on Netflix on August 29.
