‘Black Panther’ stuntman, 2 daughters killed in Georgia highway crash, police say
Taraja Ramsess was a devoted family man, relatives say.
The beloved stuntman worked on blockbuster films including Marvel’s “Black Panther,” and was “a real-life superhero” to his kids, WANF reported.
“He was an amazing, tremendous father,” his mother, Akili Ramsess, told the station. “He loved his children.”
Taraja Ramsess died Tuesday, Oct. 31, in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20 in DeKalb County, Georgia, police said in a news release. His daughters, 13-year-old Sundari Ramsess and 1-month-old Fugibo Ramsess, were also killed.
It happened on the exit from Interstate 285 to Interstate 20 east, WXIA reported, citing police.
Investigators said Ramsess was headed east on I-20 when his Ford F-150 struck a tractor-trailer that was stalled in the left lane.
A 10-year-old boy was critically injured and a 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious condition, according to WAGA. A 15-year-old girl was also hurt in the crash.
In a tribute posted on Instagram, filmmaker Ava DuVernay described Ramsess as “a leader” and “a light.”
“Taraja. Regal. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think of him,” DuVernay wrote. “He walked like a king. And to me, always acted like one.”
Ramsess’ film credits include “Avengers: End Game,” “They Cloned Tyrone,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Black Adam,” according to his IMDb page. He also worked in the art, camera and electrical departments.
“His name is like music,” DuVernay said. “We will continue to sing it. Bless his soul. Bless his memory.”
Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
