Finance minister Jim Flaherty tweets his budget day, feds make process more accessible

The Harper government is doing something a little different with Budget 2013.

They're using social media and technology to make 'budget day' a little more public friendly.

On social media, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is tweeting to give Canadians an insight to what this day entails for him. Here's what he's tweeted so far.

The finance department has also taken several steps to make budget documents more accessible and clear.

At 4 p.m (EST), the public will be able to download the full searchable budget document, briefing document, news release along with Flaherty's budget speech from here.

They're also launching something called SpeechPLUS:

New this year, Canadians with access to the Internet will also be able to take in SpeechPLUS on their computer, tablet or smartphone. Broadcast live from the floor of the House of Commons on www.budget.gc.ca, SpeechPLUS will put Canadians in the front row with live video and graphics to accompany the Minister’s speech in real time.

According to the Canadian Press, President Obama used a similar platform for his last two state of the union addresses.
