Kristin Cavallari Shares Tips on How to Choose a Baby Name

One of the things Kristin Cavallari is grateful for this Thanksgiving and every day is her little boy Camden … and the little one she has on the way!
The former "Hills" and "Laguna Beach" star, 26, revealed in October that she and her husband of six months, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, are expecting their second child. So when they sit down at the table in their Chicago home this holiday with about 20 others to eat a traditional feast that she's planning to prepare, the talk will undoubtedly turn to speculation about the the future baby, whether it will be a boy or a girl and, of course, its name.
Cavallari made a popular choice last time around with Camden without the help of a baby book, although Kristin had been given one by a sister-in-law. "I'm not even sure where we heard [Camden], but we both really liked it," she told omg! at a pre-Thanksgiving dinner in Hollywood to promote Ubisoft's game Just Dance 2014.
"Jay's sister has a little boy that's about 2 years old, so they're a little bit ahead of us. We had picked out Camden and then they had told us, 'Guess what our baby name is? Camden.' And we were like, 'We want that name!' Which was so funny, because it's not really that common of a name, but they ended up luckily going with a different one, so we got to use it."
It's no Jacob or Ethan, but Camden has become more popular in the last decade or so. Not only did Vanessa and Nick Lachey choose the same moniker for their son when he arrived a month after Cavallari's baby boy, but the Social Security Administration says it's becoming common far outside of Hollywood. It ranked as #156 on the national list of the most popular names for boys in 2012, up from #362 in 2000.
This time around, Cavallari insisted that even she and her hubby don't know the sex of the baby, but they've already singled out a name they'll use whether it's a boy or a girl. ("Jay and I — thank God — agree on pretty much every baby name, so that's been really great," she noted.) Their choices might be something similar to a couple of the celeb baby names that she likes, Harlow (as in Harlow Madden, the 5-year-old daughter of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, or Harper, the 2-year-old little girl of David and Victoria Beckham), or it might be something completely different, especially if it's another boy.
Though Kristin's lips were sealed on their picks for baby no. 2, she did offer some insight into how to go about choosing a name for your child:

Focus on the overall sound. The main factor in choosing Camden, Cavallari said, was that his parents liked the way it combined with his last name. "We liked the way Camden Cutler sounded," she shared. "We liked calling him Cam for short. You think of little nicknames as well."
Put a personal spin on it. "His middle name is Jack, which is actually Jay's dad's name, so that has meaning," Cavallari said of her adorable son.
Look for inspiration anywhere and everywhere. She found one of the two possible names that she and Jay have chosen for their next baby in an unlikely place. "I saw the boy name in a magazine and I just liked it. And then the girl name, I was in a baby store and the owner of this store named her dog this. She said she wanted to name her daughter the name, but she wasn't going to have any kids, so she gave her dog the name."
Don't worry about what others think. The Cutlers have pitched the potential monikers to close friends and family, but it's been more of an announcement than a discussion. "We've gotten mixed reviews on both and we don't care," Cavallari laughed.
Fortunately, this might not be the blond beauty's final shot at deciding what to call her offspring. She's not sure whether or not she wants to have any more children.
"It's too early to say [if we'll have another]," Cavallari explained. "It depends on if it's a boy or a girl. There's just a lot that goes into it, so we'll see."
And we'll be waiting to hear the name!
