5 things that prove Rupert Grint and Ed Sheeran are the same person

One is the star of the "Harry Potter" franchise. The other is a British singer-songwriter whose claim to fame is largely that he's a friend of Taylor Swift.

But, according to "Potter" star Rupert Grint, he is often mistaken for sensitive crooner Ed Sheeran.

The 25-year-old actor who rose to fame as Ron Weasley in the "Potter" films admitted in BBC's Match of the Day magazine that he is often recognized, just not as himself.

"People think I’m Ed Sheeran. They compliment me on my music career and I just play along with it!" Grint said. "It’s never too bad, you get the odd person staring at you but it’s pretty manageable."

It's also pretty understandable. Here are 5 reasons the stars could be the same person:

They have virtually the exact same colouration and look
Messy red hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. Both are around the same age (Grint is 25, Sheeran is 23) and both hail from England (Grint is an Essex lad, Sheeran hails from Suffolk).

They both sing
Sheeran has released two albums, toured extensively with Taylor Swift and was nominated earlier this year for a Grammy for Best New Artist. Grint is not known as a musician, but he can hold a tune. In fact, he sings a track called "Lightning" which appears on the soundtrack of "Postman Pat: The Movie," in which he also appears as the title character's foil. He will make his Broadway debut in October in the play "It's Only a Play."

They have both appeared in franchises
Grint is famous for appearing in all eight of the "Harry Potter" films while Sheeran appeared vocally in the newer big screen series "The Hobbit." His single "I See Fire" appears in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug."

They are both charitable
Grint has supported lifeboat crews, hospices and cancer research. Meanwhile, Sheeran performed a gig in 2012 that raised around $73,000 for a charity for sex workers.

They both appreciate a sense of humour
Grint is famous for bringing the funny to "Potter," while Sheeran said earlier this year that his favourite quality in a woman was a good sense of humour. "I think that's key for any long-lasting relationship," he told ELLE in June.

Now you try telling them apart!
