6 Posh 'P' Fashion Trends Victoria Beckham Initiated

Victoria Beckham is known for many things, including girl power, being married to hunky David Beckham, and her infamous pout.

However, in the fashion community, Posh is better recognized for her meticulous eye for trends, her ability to influence celebrity style, and her vigilant efforts to bring prim and proper looks back to women's fashion.

In November 2011, Beckham was named "Designer of the Year" at the annual British Fashion Awards, and unlike many celebrity designers, she's actually earned her keep in the discerning fashion world.

In fact, the former Spice Girl is responsible for many of the trends regular women (5-inch platform shoes, anyone?) have tested out.

To celebrate Victoria Beckham's 40th birthday on April 17, we look at six "P" styles that Posh initiated.

1. The Pixie: The pixie cut probably seemed like a hot new trend this year after Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and a slew of other A-list women debuted the short style, but they all owe their coif to Beckham. The British babe kicked off the hair trend in September 2008, when she hit New York Fashion Week with a pixie. It was aptly renamed the "poxie."

2. The Pob: You may not recognize the name, but you'll definitely recognize the cut. Posh popularized the modern play on the bob, which consisted of a chic graduated bob with A-line strands. Posh has successfully explored many hair-itories, but this cut is her most famous. After debuting the style in 2006, she's returned to the look time and time again and has sent dozens of women running to their stylist to get her signature 'do.

3. Platform Shoes: While Posh wasn't solely responsible for adding inches to our tennis shoes and sandals, she was a member of the Spice Girls, which lead the movement. As the Spice Girls rose to #1 on the charts with their hit single "Wannabe" in 1996, their shoes followed suit. The "Spice Up Your Life" singers made us all "wannabe" like a supermodel and strut around in embarrassingly hefty footwear. Thankfully, this trend stayed in the nineties.

4. Pushup Dresses: Small-busted women everywhere rejoiced when the fashion maven turned to corset-style, pushup dresses that brought added drama to décolletage. Victoria always put a high-fashion spin on the super sexy style by opting for dresses that had structured or ladylike lines. Basically, she was all oomph on the top and tea time on the bottom.

5. Peplum Dresses: Peplum — aka ruffled, flared, pleated, or gathered fabric attached at the waistline — didn't just take the world by storm by itself. The style icon pushed the trend to the front of the clothing rack with her designs. The stunning style is nearly as synonymous with Victoria as soccer is with David.

6. Pencil Skirts and Midi Hemlines: Beckham emerged as a fashion force to be reckoned with when she launched her first collection — consisting only of dresses — in spring 2009. The scrupulous stylist became known for her simple designs and ladylike silhouettes and effortlessly resurrected pencil skirts and midi hemlines. Hollywood followed her fashion advice and the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively, Michelle Williams, and many others started snatching up her designs for red carpet appearances.

What "P" trend do you think she'll popularize next?
