Want to know what it looks like to be invited to the Oscars? Jared Leto has obliged. The 42-year-old actor, nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club," took a screenshot of his mother's reaction when he invited her to the Oscars over Skype.

His caption for the image, posted on Monday on Instagram: "My mothers face when @shannonleto and I told her she was coming to the #Oscars with us! :)"

But when Constance Leto walks the red carpet with her two sons on Sunday, it will not be her first time acting as Leto's date. She was also by her son's side at the premiere of the "Dallas Buyers Club" in October and for the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January.

In the film, Leto plays a transgender woman with HIV who befriends Ron Woodroof (played by Matthew McConaughey), who starts a business smuggling AIDS drugs into Texas. Leto is favoured to win best supporting actor after having already won the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.

And it turns out those accolades could have gone to Ryan Gosling.

The 33-year-old Canadian actor has suggested in the new documentary "Seduced and Abandoned," which aired on HBO in October, that he was once up for Leto's role in the film, but he lost out while in the audition waiting room.

"You hear the casting director negotiating the deal for the guy who already got the part — turns out Jared Leto already got it," Gosling explained of the process.

"Then you go in and you're just like, 'I'll do it as an acting exercise. I know I'm not going to get it; I'll just take it as an experience.'"
