Lena Dunham is going to write an ‘Archie’ comic
Are you ready, comic book fans? "Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham is taking on yet another project: The Golden Globe winner will pen a four-part "Archie" story set to debut in 2015.
Chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa reportedly reached out to Dunham after she sang the praises of "Archie" during a Q&A in November of 2013. And, according to him, the story will be "incredibly contemporary," despite being a "classic 'Archie' story, with a definitely unique, Lena spin."
"Archie" co-CEO John Goldwater used four familiar words to sum up Ms. Dunham.
"She's the voice of her generation," Goldwater told Comic Book Resources. "To have someone like that say, 'Not only am I a fan, I'd love to write something,' it just epitomizes all the hard work we've put in for the last five years." Those five years have seen the "Archie" world move in a new, more modern direction, with new stories and gay characters being introduced, as well as zombies. (Naturally.)
But since a year is a long time to wait for Dunham's interpretation of "Archie," we've inserted the cast of "Girls" into the "Archie" universe. See which "Girls" characters we think align with the Riverdale gang.
Archie Andrews: Hannah
Why? Because this is Hannah and Archie's world. And we're just living in it.
Betty Cooper: Adam
Why? Because he loves Hannah more than he loves himself -- just like Betty loves Archie.
Veronica Lodge: Marnie
Why? Because there aren't many characters with wealthy families in the "Archie" universe, and we're pretty sure Veronica would also rent a beach house and serve duck to her friends, like Marnie did on "Girls" this season.
Jughead Jones: Ray
Why? Because like Jughead, Ray will never be the real protagonist. Oh, and he has dark hair.
Reggie Mantle: Elijah
Why? Not only does he at one point win the affections of Marnie Michaels (who, as we've said, is the "Girls" version of Veronica), but he's also a mix between Hannah's biggest rival and best friend, making this an officially interesting storyline.
Cheryl Blossom: Jessa
Why? Just like Cheryl, Jessa's the only "Girls" character worthy of a spin-off.
Moose Klump: Shoshanna
Why? Because Moose and Shosh are both constantly underestimated by their peers, despite being the most genuine characters of them all.
In terms of periphery characters, which "Girls" cast members would you like to see descend upon the "Archie" world?
