Rob Lowe: Jewel did not want to kiss me in our ‘Lyon’s Den’ love scene

Rob Lowe was not meant for Jewel, it seems. On "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Wednesday, Lowe revealed that the "You Were Meant for Me" singer was quite obvious about not wanting to kiss him 10 years ago when they appeared on the short-lived NBC drama "The Lyon's Den."

The "Parks and Recreation" actor wrote about the offending moment in his new memoir, "Love Life," but provided Ellen with more details on the "unmitigated disaster" of "The Lyon's Den," an NBC law drama that lasted a mere six episodes in 2003.

"It's a parade of indignities, and the culminating blow for me was having the actress who didn't want to kiss me in the love scene," Lowe said, adding, "And that person would be Jewel."

When Ellen inquired about how he knew the 39-year-old singer didn't want to smooch him, he said, "my clue was her reaction after the director sort of forced us to do it because it was in the script."

Of course, Ellen couldn't let that story pass without trying to re-create the moment, with Ellen playing Lowe and Lowe playing Jewel. The host proceeded to lunge at the 50-year-old actor as he kept his lips tightly pursed and moved his head away. The crowning moment was when he wiped off the kiss.

"All gags aside, that was insane," Lowe said after Ellen's performance.

So how did the actual smooch go? Let's take a look (the scene begins around the 5:31 mark):

Though we don't know why exactly Jewel did not want to make out with her handsome co-star, back in 2003 she was in the middle of a romance with rodeo star Ty Murray. The duo ended up marrying in 2008.

As for the real kiss, it's a testament to Jewel's acting skills that it looked pretty hot, despite the drama behind the scenes.
