Shenae Grimes: ‘I’m such a proud Canadian’

Shenae Grimes-Beech returned to Toronto yesterday -- and the former "Degrassi" star couldn't stop gushing about her hometown.

The "90210" actress brought along her British model husband (and DJ), Josh Beech to the launch of her collaboration with Montreal-based company Annabelle Cosmetics.

"I'm such a proud Canadian," Grimes said in a promotional video for Annabelle. "A lot of the times you haven't made it until you've made it in America so to stay true to your heritage is something I'm really excited to be associated with."

In a new interview on Global News's "The Morning Show," the 24-year-old "Degrassi" alum talked about how difficult it was to move to the U.S. in 2008 (after a brief sojourn interning at the now-defunct "Fashion Television" in Toronto).

"As soon as I left home I was like, 'Please bring me back!'" Grimes said. "I just realized the values you are brought up with are so different from anywhere else in the world."

The Toronto native, who wed U.K. model Beech last year and lives in Los Angeles, admitted that being an actress in Canada is very different from being one in the U.S.

"Acting in Canada there was very little of the celebrity-driven side of the career and in America it's very much about that," she explained. "It's a whole different beast to tackle."
