80’s singer stuns Berlin busker by helping him perform

A street musician in Berlin looks dumbfounded when the original singer of the tune he's playing scurries up beside him and joins the vocals in this viral video.

In the video uploaded two weeks ago, an unidentified musician strums the 1984 song "Smalltown Boy," originally sung by Jimmy Somerville of the band Bronski Beat, which hit number 3 on the charts in the U.K. when the band released it.

A man hurries up to him and starts to sing along, prompting the musician to stop playing, stare in shock, and then say "Oh, wait!" before counting down and picking up the song again.

"Is this you?" the busker asks after the song. Indeed, the guest singer is none other than Somerville, who appears to have been passing by while walking his dog.

The online late-night show Onkel Bernis Welt, which posted the video, describes the serendipitous below the video:

What a huge surprise for this streetmusician and us! We were filming him singing the song smalltown boy by Bronski Beat, when suddenly Jimmy Somerville (the original singer) comes up and joins him singing! Awesome, things like that only happen in Berlin!

The video has been viewed more than 281,000 times.

Spotting celebrities on the street performing their art is always a treat for passers-by, such as those who witnessed the time Bruce Springsteen borrowed a guitar and casually picked away for a while in the Boston Public Gardens.

Arcade Fire once brought their music to the streets of London after a concert in 2007, and of course, Justin Bieber started his days busking in his hometown of Stratford, Ont.
