A fun 404 page and a ‘Scooby’ van: Hillary’s fresh approach to campaigning

Her presidential campaign is already the most fun campaign of the bunch.

After officially launching her presidential bid on Sunday, Hillary Clinton boarded a black minivan named “Scooby” — a nod to both “everyday Americans” and everyone’s favourite fictional vehicle, Scooby-Doo’s Mystery Machine — and headed for Iowa.

Clinton, who is actively trying to make over her “elitist” image, opted to drive instead of fly so she could have a more flexible schedule — and meet people along the way.

“This was her idea and she has been really excited about it,” Clinton senior aide Huma Abedin said late Sunday during a conference call with reporters. “We’ve been driving for a good part of today.”

Clinton’s new humble image is working so well that she went unnoticed at an Ohio Chipotle — the manager didn’t notice until a call from The New York Times prompted him to check security footage — where she stopped for a chicken burrito bowl.

“The thing is, she has these dark sunglasses on,” manager Charles Wright said. “She just was another lady.”

Clinton’s website’s 404 page gives supporters and potential voters a glimpse of her self-deprecating side: when a link fails, visitors are forwarded to a page with a photo of Clinton and her family all wearing Donald Duck attire:

“Oops, that link wasn’t what it was quacked up to be,” the page reads before asking the visitor to sign up to volunteer on the campaign.

Even her controversial logo design — “controversial” only because people think it’s bad design — could be considered a nod to her new image.

Here’s hoping she sticks with this approach. It’s already making campaign trail more fun to watch.
