A woman in Hamilton, New Zealand felt compelled to place an ad in the newspaper after discovering a stockpile of men’s underwear and socks that her cat had stolen.

The woman, only identified as Sarah, was clearing out her house in preparation for a move when she came across the large pile of underpants and socks, many matching.

The ad reads: Are you missing underwear? We have discovered that our cat has stolen a large amount of men’s underpants and socks from a neighbour. We live on St. George. If it is you, we are very sorry. We have them here and we can return them. You’ll be pleased to know we are moving…

A photo that accompanies the note shows a Siamese cat proudly sitting in front of several dozen socks and boxer briefs.

Commenters on Reddit had a range of reactions.

“In fact, it looks to be just one man’s underwear,” wrote Alchemist42. “The kitten has a crush on someone specific. This is more than just a run of the mill underwear fetish. It’s the feline equivalent of that guy who has a shrine in his (mom’s) basement apartment filled with photos of someone who is about to come to some harm.”

“Let’s dispel once and for all with this fiction that this cat doesn’t know what he’s doing,” wrote POCKALEELEE. “He knows EXACTLY what he’s doing.”

Others, who own the same breed of cat, stressed that sock stealing is a common trait amongst Siamese.

“I have a half Siamese, half Burmese,” wrote Z1stCNTRYdgtlBOY. “She does this with my socks and underwear as well. Not my wife’s mind you, just mine. She’ll pull out a sock from who knows where and carry it around the house yowling like she just won the lottery.”

However, the top prize for cat burglar goes to this cat, accused of stealing more than 600 hundred items from neighbours.
