Astronauts capture stunning footage of Southern Lights

Seeing an aurora light up the night sky is an incredible experience for those of us here on Earth, but seeing it from space is an experience that's out of this world.

The crew of Expedition 29 on the International Space Station gives us a glimpse into the amazing view that astronauts get in space of Aurora Australis (or the Southern Lights) with this video taken on Sept. 17.

This video is actually a series of stills taken by the astronauts on pass from the south of Madagascar to north of Australia over the Indian Ocean. For more info on how the astronauts take these photos, check out NASA's Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth website, where there's plenty more cool videos to watch, too.
