Scottish highland dancers recently joined a Bhangra dance group for an incredible performance to celebrate diversity during the 6th annual British Columbia Multicultural Awards.

The Royal Academy of Bhangra and the Shot of Scotch Vancouver danced together to honour and celebrate British Columbia’s cultural diversity and to promote multiculturalism.

The result was an amazing fusion of highland dancing with traditional forms of Punjabi music and folk dance, as seen in the video.

“It’s a country of immigrants that built this great province,” B.C. Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services, Amrik Virk, said during the event in a YouTube video.

“We’re recognizing those who celebrated diversity, who welcome newcomers, who fight against racism, who work to be tolerant, and today we’re going to celebrate those successes.”

Five champions were recognized at the 2015 awards event, including individuals, organizations and businesses, for helping bring diverse cultures together.
