A teen from Kamloops, B.C. is hoping she won’t have to go to her high school prom alone.

So she decided to invite the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, to be her date for the special occasion.

Kashlee Taylor-Proulx recently uploaded a picture of herself online, holding a sign, asking Trudeau to prom and expecting only her close friends to see it.

The photo, however, has since been shared by thousands of people.

“I did not expect it to get this big,” Taylor-Proulx told Global News.

It all began when the 17-year-old teen recently went through a breakup with her boyfriend after dating him for over a year, Global News reports. They had plans to go to prom together.

While ranting to her friend one day, the idea of taking Trudeau to prom came up, Taylor-Proulx told 96.9 JACK FM. It was apparently the first person that came into in her mind after seeing him in the news a lot.

Although, Taylor-Proulx is aware that Trudeau has a very busy schedule, she hopes he will contact her even if it’s through an email or phone call, she told the radio station.

She hasn’t heard anything yet from Trudeau but there’s plenty of time with prom still seven months away.

“A lot of teenagers enjoy politics and I feel that if he did come, even if just to give a speech at the graduation ceremony, not only would he be gaining future votes but enlightening my peers about what being a Prime Minister is all about,” she told Global News.

Her mom, Cheryl, is proud and supportive of her daughter’s wish.

“A young girl who can’t even vote actually asked the Prime Minister to grad and not a famous actor,” her mom wrote on Facebook. “It shows that he has made an impression with our young people.”
