Bill Cosby used drugging women as a bit in his 1960s comedy routine

Is it reality imitating art? Or vice-versa?

Funnyman Bill Cosby, currently under fire over allegations of sexual abuse, actually had a comedic bit about drugging women with Spanish Fly that he used in his stand-up routines.

In his 1969 album It's True! It's True!, Cosby tells a story about being a 13-year-old kid talking with friends about putting a substance into women's drinks.

According to the bit:

You know anything about Spanish Fly? No, tell me about it! Well there’s this girl, Crazy Mary, you put some in her drink, man, she ahhhh ... yeah, Spanish, oh yeah, that's really groovy, man, Spanish Fly is groovy, yeah, boy. From then on, man, anytime you see a girl, wish you had some Spanish Fly, boy. Go to a party, see five girls standing alone, 'Boy if I had a whole jug of Spanish Fly I'd light that corner up over there, hahaha!'

Cosby goes on to joke about how excited he and 'I Spy' co-star Robert Culp were to go to "the land of Spanish Fly" when they filmed in Spain.

On Tuesday night, former model Janice Dickinson told Entertainment Tonight that she had been sexually assaulted by the 77-year-old comedian when they were performing together in Lake Tahoe in 1982. Cosby's attorney, Marty Singer, called the claims an "outrageous defamatory lie."

Cosby has been accused of rape by a number of women who say he put drugs in their drinks. In 2006, Cosby settled out of court with accuser Andrea Constand.

Cosby's Netflix comedy special, "Bill Cosby 77", originally scheduled to be available following American Thanksgiving, has been put on hold because of the allegations, according to The Verge. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a family sitcom Cosby was developing with NBC has been scrapped entirely.
