Bird Bird, FLOTUS team up to play game, promote healthy eating

It could be the opening line of a joke: Michelle Obama, Big Bird and Billy Eichner walk into a grocery store.

Instead, it was the premise of a 12-minute Billy On The Street episode, posted on Funny Or Die, promoting healthy eating and answering the age old question: Which is better, Ariana Grande or a carrot?

(The correct answer: Carrot. Although Ariana Grande’s ponytail also got some love from FLOTUS.)

Sesame Street and the Produce Marketing Association have teamed up to create the Eat Brighter campaign, aimed at encouraging kids to eat more fruits and veggies.

Yesterday, Big Bird tweeted about hanging out with the First Lady to his maybe-imaginary friend, Mr. Snuffleupagus.

The bizarre sketch — apparently Big Bird knows more about The Facts of Life than Michelle Obama does, which is impressive for a bird who claims to be just 6 years old — was also followed up by a Reddit AMA by Eichner and Big Bird, who answered viewers’ most pressing questions about their fun-in-the-supermarket day.

When asked if FLOTUS insisted on a run-through before the show’s taping, Eichner insisted that she played along just as every guest on his show does — without pre-screening questions.

“We never rehearse anything on Billy on the Street and we didn’t rehearse with FLOTUS! She had no idea what I was going to ask her! She was awesome,” he wrote.

And, no, Big Bird wasn’t worried that President Obama was going to be jealous that he danced with his wife.

“I’m SIX years old. I dance with all my friends!” Big Bird wrote.

If a giant yellow child-bird slow-dancing with the First Lady can’t convince us to eat fresh produce, who can?
