Bonobo can build a fire, roast marshmallows and flip burgers

Sure, we all laughed at the whole idea of Planet of the Apes, but after watching this freakishly smart chimp named Kanzi make his own fire and roast his own marshmallows, nobody’s laughing. They’re all too awestruck.

The video was originally aired on a new BBC show called Monkey Planet and has made a few jaws drop after people saw the intelligence of this unbelievably smart animal.

In the video, Kanzi is gathering and breaking sticks in order to form small pile for his fire, and when he’s ready, he strikes a match.

Once his fire is good and ready, he begins to slide marshmallows onto a stick and holds them over the fire. When Kanzi feels they are charred enough for his liking, you cant help but smile as he enjoys his hot tasty treat.

Many have taken to social media to express how impressed they are with Kanzi's skills.

Kanzi is one of eight bonobos (pygmy chimpanzees) at the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaugh, a world expert ape behaviorist, says that Kanzi, who is 31 years old, is the brightest ape at the trust.

She said that Kanzi “used to watch the film Quest For Fire when he was very young, which was about early men struggling to control fire. He watched it spellbound over and over hundreds of times.”

Not only has Kanzi learned to make a fire and roast marshmallows, he can cook and flip burgers on a frying pan! He even has his own little grill that he cooks on.

He knows to extinguish his fire when he is finished with a bottle of water.

Kanzi picked up on the skills by watching his keepers gather wood and create a fire. Now he is passing his fire making skills on to his son, Teco.

Maybe someone can get them some chocolate and a few graham crackers for their marshmallows, as I am sure they would love to be taught how to make the infamous s'mores.
