Boy fighting cancer proposes to his favourite nurse

A five-year-old boy fighting cancer popped the question to his favourite nurse and along the way melted the hearts of million, after the adorable video went viral.

Gideon Robinson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia last year and has been receiving treatments at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California, according to his GoFundMe page.

Robinson who also goes by the name ‘Iron Gideon,’ after he had a port surgically implanted into his chest similar to Iron Man, fell in love with one particular nurse at the hospital, which he calls ‘Tall Sarah.’

“She was the nurse that took care of us through most of his first chunk of time in the hospital,” Robinson’s mother told BuzzFeed. “The nurse that is teaching you how to keep your son alive becomes a very important person.”

Sarah Richardson aka 'Tall Sarah’ captured the little boy’s heart.

According to Today, the idea to propose came to Robinson after 'Tall Sarah’ joked about wishing her boyfriend would pop the question already.

That’s when Robinson decided to make her happy.

“I want to make her laugh” the little boy told KTLA. “Because she thinks I’m such a funny boy.”

For the proposal, Gideon made the ring using a pipe cleaner and a bead, BuzzFeed reports. He even created the box that held the engagement ring out of purple construction paper.

Robinson’s mom recorded the moment and the mother and son talk beforehand about how he would propose to 'Tall Sarah.’

When the time finally came, Robinson got down on one knee, opened the purple box and asked, “would you marry me?”

“Of course! You can be my hospital husband,” exclaimed the nurse, as she placed the ring on her finger in the video.

“It was really, really cute and sweet,” Richardson told Today. “I was surprised by the amount of people he got to come.”
