Boy gets suspended for threatening classmate with Lord of the Rings sorcery

A nine-year-old boy in Texas was suspended last week after threatening to make a classmate disappear with his "One Ring."

According to the New York Daily News, Aiden Steward had watched "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies" days earlier, and he imagined that he had the magical ring that was formed in fictional Middle Earth's Mount Doom.

"It sounded unbelievable," said Jason Steward, the boy's father. "Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly."

But the school, Kermit Elementary in Kermit, Texas, took the threat seriously. Principal Roxanne Greer refused to comment on the fourth-grader's suspension.

"I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend's existence," Jason Steward wrote in an e-mail. "If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back."

According to Wikipedia, "the One Ring was created by Sauron the Dark Lord as part of his design to win domination over Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings concerns the quest to destroy the Ring to keep Sauron from fulfilling his design."

The suspension apparently was Aiden's third in the six months since he started attending the school.
