Breakfast of champions? UK café adds 7,778-calorie, 59-item breakfast to menu

We’ve heard it said time and time again: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

This morning meal looks like it could get us through the week.

The Corner Café in Portishead, Bristol, England, recently unveiled a new menu item: The 7,778-calorie, 59-item Monster Mega Breakfast.

According to the Bristol Post, for just £15 ($27 CAD), the customer who dares to order the Monster Mega Breakfast will be served the following:

“Six rashers of bacon, six sausages, six eggs, two thee-egg omelettes, four portions of fried potatoes and four portions of mushrooms. It also comes with six slices of black pudding, six hash browns, one bowl of chips, four onion rings, four slices of toast, two [slices of] fried bread, half a grilled tomato, two portions of beans and two portions of tomatoes.”

To help wash down the massive breakfast, diners can choose between a milkshake or energy drink.

To make the restaurant’s wall of champions, the diner who orders the meal must complete it within an hour. But first, they must sign a waiver, promising they won’t share, they will stop if they are sick, and are over 18 years of age.

Eat at your own risk.

Successful eaters will have their photo mounted on the wall, and receive a free breakfast voucher, a small trophy and a keyring.

'We don't make any money off of it. It's just a bit of fun. We are quite a happy cafe and it just came about as fun — nothing else,” Lucy Butler, restaurant manager and co-creator of the breakfast challenge, told the Daily Mail.

Since launching the menu item last Wednesday, eight customers have attempted to finish off the enormous meal — and failed. (Two came close, however.)

According to The Lad Bible, the family-run restaurant used to offer customers the chance to finish off two of their mega breakfasts. The only problem? Too many people were able to finish them. So the Monster Mega Challenge was created.

“The challenge launched when we came back for Christmas on January 7th,” Butler said. “We had a challenge before which was to eat two of our mega breakfasts but too many people got through it. So we thought if we were going to do this we have to be one of the biggest. And so came The Monster Mega Challenge.”

To those brave enough to try to tackle the huge mass of food, Butler offers this advice:

“It’s an absolute must to go for the heavy stuff first – sausages, black pudding and bread. Take a short break in between with lots of water. A big meal the night before might help stretch your stomach too. All I can say is good luck and don’t rush!”

The Corner Café isn’t the only diner offering a gut-busting breakfast in England. In Swansea, the Uplands Diner is known for its Mega Beast breakfast.

According to the South Wales Evening Post, “Anyone who takes on the Mega Beast can expect 10 rashers of bacon, 5 eggs, 8 sausages, chips, two hash browns, bubble and squeak, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, two black puddings, 4 slices of toast, 4 slices of bread and butter, 4 slices of fried bread, and one burger.”

And The Telegraph is listing five other “monster” breakfasts available in Britain.

Would you dare to take on one of these?
