A senator's 'Frozen' ringtone goes off during hearing

Yesterday, during a Senate Finance Committee trade hearing, Senator Pat Roberts’ phone went off.

His ringtone: Frozen’s “Let It Go.”

“Oh, come on,” the 78-year-old former Marine Corps captain said as he took his phone out of his pocket.

“Just ‘let it go,’ mister,” he told agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack, who had been speaking when Roberts received the phone call.

A video of the cute interruption went viral, as all Frozen-related videos tend to do.

Fortunately, Roberts had a sense of humour about the embarrassing mishap, and tweeted the following after the meeting:

Roberts’ spokeswoman, Sarah Little, told TODAY.com that the ringtone was, in fact. for his grandkids.

“He balances it with Johnny Cash’s ‘Walk the Line,’” Little added. “Those are his two ringtones.”

The Washington Post was inspired by Roberts’ ringtone, and decided to match other politicians with appropriate Disney ringtones.

The paper gave Hillary Clinton “Go the Distance” from Hercules, “because of her road trip to Iowa to prove she can connect with average Americans.”

It paired Ted Cruz with Dumbo’s “When I See An Elephant Fly,” “because of his desire to steer the GOP in a more conservative direction.”

And it assigned Mulan’s “Bring Honor To Us All” as the ringtone for Jeb Bush, “because of his family legacy of presidential politics.”
