Harper Squares and Trudeau O’s: Ontario man sells election-themed cereal boxes

The federal election is only a month away, and while you could vote based on each leader’s performance in Thursday night’s debate, you could also decide based on how they taste for breakfast.

Jaime Christian, 27, has taken it upon himself to create novelty cereal boxes for the three major party leaders.

The three cereals are “Harper Squares” (Shreddies), “Trudeau O’s” (Cheerios), and “Mulcair’s Lucky Charms” (this one should be obvious).

The Canadian Press reports the cereals are slated to go on sale Monday and can be bought online through his website, PoliShtick. He’s also included some humorous descriptions of each.

Christian told CP the cereals are meant to lighten up the election campaign a bit.

“Everyone’s laughed when they’ve seen the boxes, that’s all I was really going for,” he said.

CP reports that he got the idea from similar cereals made for the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, when “Obama’Os” and “Cap’n McCain’s” hit the market.

Christian reportedly spent five thousand dollars funding the project and will have 1000 of each box produced, along with their very own jingles.

He told CP he was nervous in the beginning about what kind of reception his idea would get. Those nerves faded after both the Liberals and New Democrats put in orders of their own.

He said he hasn’t heard anything from the Conservatives yet.

The first round of sales will only feature the main three candidates, but Christian said if the reception is right he might have to add “May’s Miniwheats” to the mix.

You’ll be out of luck if you actually want to eat them for breakfast, as he said it was far too expensive to actually fill the boxes with real cereal.

He said they will be filled with something, but was keeping that part a surprise.

A portion of the sales are set to go to a non-profit organization in his hometown of London, Ont.
