Cake attack ends in mess and arrest Washington courthouse

By customizing the colour of the icing, this castle cake will be a hit with girls and boys.

A vicious attack has left a mess at the Cowlitz County Hall of Justice in Washington, with one man arrested and several officers smeared with purple frosting.

The Daily News reported a woman named Michelle Flavin walked into the courthouse carrying a chocolate birthday cake for her daughter, who was turning nine, because she didn't want to leave the dessert in the car where her dog might eat it. But a stray hand and a scuffle led to the cake's speedy demise, the Daily News reported, and the birthday cake became a mound of clumps and icing spread all over uniforms and faces.

Shortly after Flavin walked through the metal detector, a man submerged a greedy hand into the birthday cake, eager for a taste, according to the Daily News.

Then, KATU News reported the man walked over to the drinking fountain and began to wash his hands when a county sheriff's deputy, Joe Connor, told him to stay put.

"I went to get some towels to clean him up before I dealt with him and no sooner had I turned my back on him and he was back on the cake again. And then all hell broke loose," Connor told KATU News.

Another deputy pulled the man away from the demolished cake, flipping over the table and launching the cake in the process, according to KATU.

Robert Eric Fredrickson, who was at the courthouse on charges of indecent exposure, was arrested on charges of theft and resisting arrest, according to reports.

A Daily News reporter in the lobby during the incident reporting seeing deputies with icing-splotched uniforms walking through the lobby after Fredrickson was taken to the jail.

A Safeway store offered to replace the cake.
