California family ditches Christmas card, pens Christmas 'recap rap' instead

The family rap is the new end-of-year newsletter and Christmas photo combined.

The Lacking family of Los Angeles, California, summarized their year for friends and family with a catchy “recap rap.”

Dad Dion Lacking, who co-owns the production company LackToast Entertainment, told TODAY Parents that this was the first time he’d combined his work and his family life.

“My favourite part was being able to create this memory with my entire family. With (our schedules) it’s sometimes very difficult to plan something together,” Dion said.

Kaylee, 8, is the star of the video. And while she’s new to rapping — her parents claim she’s never shown any interest in performing until recently — she already comes across as a seasoned pro.

“The hardest part was only saying the lyrics that he wrote for me because I knew everybody’s lines. But it was so much fun to do something with my family and experience how to rap,” said Kaylee.

While 3-year-old Kaydence was a little too young to learn rap lyrics, her interrupting “nos” quickly became everyone’s favourite part of the video, mom Dawnise told TODAY Parents.
