Caught on camera: Alligator attempts to ring doorbell

It isn’t exactly the ideal set up for a knock knock joke – an alligator meandering around a residential yard and up the front doorsteps to attempt to ring the doorbell. That’s the scene caught on film this week after a South Carolina man came across the reptile while on his morning walk with his dog.

Gary Rogers told ABC4News that the animal was trying to climb a fence and then decided to go for the door. While alligators aren’t known to climb, it managed to erect itself at the front door for a moment before toppling over and slithering away.

“This alligator looked like he was really trying to make an attempt to get over the fence and into this woman’s pool in the backyard,” Rogers told the station. “And then when it went over to the house it kind of was up around the doorbell.”

The swamp-dwelling reptiles can be seen around the area, just not usually on residential property.

“The gator was not aggressive at all,” Rogers said. “He was just kind of trying to find his way out. I mean he was caught between fences, in between a couple of houses. Had no place to go. Went around the air conditioner a couple of times.”

The alligator wanderer around the cul-de-sac for about an hour, before finding its way out.
