Nokia is receiving a promotional boost from a Swedish customer who says his phone survived a three month scuba dive in a lake.

Roger Nilsson described his Lumia 800 phone's underwater adventure on Nokia's Swedish Facebook page. According to a translation, he wrote that he lost his phone in a lake three and a half months ago, and then found recently during low tide. He said it was covered with shells and "green goo" but he placed the drowned phone on a radiator anyway, then plugged in the charger.

"Imagine my surprise when it boots up as usual!" he wrote, adding that the camera and battery life are still in good order.

Unlike Sony's new waterproof smartphone, the Lumia wasn't designed to survive in water, according to the Times of India.

Nilsson's story earned him international media coverage and a story in Swedish by NYHeter24, in which he says he was shocked by the attention, according to a Google translation.

"It is amazing that such a small phone can get so much attention," he said.

Another cell phone became an unintentional bullet-blocker this week during a burglary at a Florida gas station, according to the Telegraph. An attempted burglar shot at an employee at the scene, but the bullet hit the cell phone in his pocket, leaving him with only minor injuries instead of a bullet in his stomach.
