Chris Hadfield won’t eat his cereal but Canada loves him anyway

Either celebrities are developing a collective aversion to cereal, or Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has inspired his very own set of memes.

The former captain of the International Space Station landed safely at 10:31 p.m. in Kazakhstan on Monday after almost five months in space.

While in orbit, Hadfield staged an unprecedented public relations campaign for space research, sending to Earth such instructional gems as how to make a sandwich in space, how to shave and cut your hair and how to brush your teeth at zero gravity.

Most recently, he recorded the first music video in space, performing a cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity.

Shortly after his return to Earth, iVillage Canada published a set of short looped videos using the application Vine to juxtapose a spoonful of cereal over Chris Hadfield's face in various scenes from his videos.

The meme is adapted from a new viral sensation created by similar short videos of Ryan Gosling with a spoon creeping into the side of the frame. And so, neither Ryan Gosling nor Chris Hadfield will eat their cereal.

Chris Hadfield seems to have a better excuse. At least he's readjusting to gravity and recovering from blood loss, reduced bone mass and worsened vision.

He's welcome to eat anything he likes, as far as we're concerned.
