Comedian pranks news channel by talking about Edward Scissorhands instead of Edward Snowden

News Host Trolled In Edward Snowden Prank

If a news station invites a guest speaker for its live televised broadcast and their Twitter handle is @Fart, chances are they may not be the most reputable source.

U.S. news channel HLN invited Jon Hendren to speak with anchor Yasmin Vossoughian about whistleblower Edward Snowden on Twitter, which seemed to be the case early in the interview.

Hendren is asked if Snowden should be viewed in the same light as ISIS, which he promptly dismissed and said, “He’s a hero. He’s doing what any of us would’ve done in that situation.”

Nothing really out of the ordinary, until Vossoughian asks Hendren about the potential risks that can come from Snowden’s actions.

“To say that he couldn’t harm somebody with what he did… absolutely he could have,” Hendren tells Vossoughian, “But I think to cast him out, to make him invalid in society simply because he has scissors for hands?”

Strangely, Vossoughian continues the interview unfazed by Hedren’s adoration for a Tim Burton character, and asks if it’s hypocritical that Snowden is taking asylum in Russia.

“We’re treating him like an animal: somebody who should be quarantined and put away,” Hendren said in complete deadpan, “Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price, incomplete with scissors for hands and no heart… Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero to me.”

Whoever vetted this guy for HLN were probably looking for Al Jazeera English correspondent Jon Hendren, who had this to say on Twitter.

VICE contacted Hendren via email and asked how he ended up on the show in the first place.

“No clue, I got an email last night asking me to Skype in and comment. I said yes immediately.”
