Couple didn’t predict house fire caused by crystal ball

The crystal ball that caused a house fire in England.

“Your future looks very … bright.”

Probably not the kind of 'bright' a couple from Romford, U.K., envisioned when their crystal ball caused their house to go up in flames.

The Sun's rays had been bouncing off the mystical ornament in one of the bedrooms at about 3:30 in the afternoon and set fire to the curtains.

Clearly not a very good crystal ball …

The man, who was asleep in the bedroom after working a night shift, was woken up by sound of the smoke alarm. The fire spread through the rest of the room and quickly escalated. The couple attempted to put out the fire themselves with a garden hose and some towels but eventually they had to flee the house and call the fire department.

“The blaze caused severe damage to the bedroom but thankfully no one was hurt,” the London Fire Brigade reported. The brigade has issued stern warnings to homeowners not to leave glass bottles or ornaments on their windowsills.

They urge people not to attempt to put out the fires themselves, either, because you could get yourself seriously injured. It’s best to get out and call the fire department immediately and let the firemen do what they do best.

“You can’t predict the future, but you can prevent this type of fire,” said Officer Mick Boyle of the London Fire Brigade.

I predict this couple will get rid of that crystal ball … it’s a real fire hazard!
