Crazy South Korean restaurant gets singles surprise blind dates

Finding a hot date when you've been living the single life for a while can be tough. Have no fear. One restaurant in South Korea may have a surprise for you...literally.

Here's how it works. You walk into a restaurant that reads "Restaurant for Singles” (loosely translated because I don’t have my Korean alphabet memorized yet). You immediately feel better about the prospect of having dinner by yourself, because after all, everyone else in the place is there alone too. An iPad pops up a message that asks if you're enjoying your meal because somebody would like to join you and then boom, the wall in front of you opens up to reveal a hot date you had no clue was coming.

While the video seems like more of a practical joke than anything else (and may actually be a viral marketing campaign), there are actually many places in Seoul and beyond where you can dine alone.

Some singles dining hot spots allow you to have your own half table with no one sitting across from you. It’s the chance to be alone at a table while relaxing and enjoying a delicious meal without onlookers and wait staff wondering why you’re all by yourself.

Dining at a table for one in a place specifically for singles is a really cool concept. Think about it. Even if there is no surprise date waiting behind the wall for you, a singles restaurant makes it perfectly okay to turn to the person next to you and say hello if you really want to. Not only that, Statistics Canada census data shows that age, location and gender play significant roles in not only your marital status, but your chances of finding someone while single in the city.

A look at the data shows that being single, young, male and living in Toronto offers you a bigger dating pool than most. Suddenly having dinner alone in the centre of the universe doesn’t seem so bad. Of course the best singles restaurant is still in South Korea.

Update: as we suspected, it looks like the video is part of a marketing campaign for Samsung.
