‘Dancing’ drones take over the sky in front of Mount Fuji

In this dazzling musical show, a spectacle of drones took centre stage in a magnificent display of lights.

Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest peak, was the beautiful backdrop in this mesmerizing video. 20 flying machines equipped with 16,500 LED lights danced to traditional Japanese ‘shamisens’ guitars, according to the video description.

Sky Magic is a “revolutionary” type of drone created by Japanese tech company MicroAd as a way to entertain, according to the company’s press event last month.

“I wanted to bring out a new type of magic to the sky using drones,” creative director, Tsuyoshi Takashiro told Spoon and Tamago.

Using the DMX512, which normally controls stage lighting and effects, the drones were perfectly choreographed to the music as the lights simultaneously shone in the night sky.

“The sky is one of the few remaining frontiers in the new cyber space,” MircoAd President Kentaro Watanabe told RT. “It is the objective of this project. I would like to reach out to as many people in various places in the 21st century of fireworks.”

Watanabe reportedly hopes to beat Intel’s Guinness World Record for the highest number of drones flown at one time and wants “to fly more than 101 drones by the end of this year.”
