Carjackers find kid in backseat then drop him off at school

Two carjackers who had stolen a mother's vehicle with her 8-year-old boy in back seat dropped him off at school.

Stay in school. That’s the message an 8-year-old boy in Norfolk, VA. was seemingly sent when he was mistakenly abducted by two would-be car thieves.

Police responded to a stolen vehicle call shortly after 8 a.m., according to 13News Now.

The boy’s mother had reportedly left the car running while she ran into the post office and that’s when the two carjackers sprang into action, not realizing the child was sitting in the back seat.

When the pair of thieves noticed the boy in the back, they decided to drop him off at school.

“The two guys got into the car, saw that he was in the car, and turned around and said ‘Oh, we’re here to take you to school, where do you go to school?’, Officer Daniel Hudson, a spokesperson for the Norfolk Police Department, told WAVY. “He said Ghent Elementary, and they took off to Ghent Elementary.”

The boy reportedly told police he had been a little scared but otherwise unharmed.

“We found the child at school, unharmed, sitting in the classroom with a smile on his face,” said Hudson.

The whole ordeal didn’t last long. According to WAVY, police had tracked both the car and the kid down within 15 minutes.

The car was another easy find for police because the boy’s mother had also left her cell phone behind when she went into the post office.

A simple ‘Find My iPhone’ search later and police had found the vehicle, abandoned, just three miles from the school.

The thieves remain at large and could face child abduction charges if found.

Police are also reportedly still trying to decide whether charges should be laid against the mother.
