Edward Snowden finds a job in Russia

Russian state television released a new image of former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden in Moscow the same day his lawyer announced he has been hired to work for a website. Sarah Irwin reports.

A photo of Edward Snowden on a boat in Moscow is circulating online along with reports that the former NSA contractor has found a job in Russia.

The image, published by Life News, depicts Snowden sitting on a boat, with a hat on and his head turned toward the camera. The back of a blonde woman's head is visible beside him and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is in the background.

Russia gave Snowden temporary asylum in August after he exposed the U.S. National Security Agency's widespread surveillance operations and fled the country.

Earlier this month, Life News published a photo of someone who looked like Snowden pushing a grocery cart.

Agence France-Presse also reported on Thursday that Snowden, who was running short on cash, found a job at a "major Russian website." The information came from his lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, but he did not reveal the name of the company where Snowden will join the payroll as of Friday, Nov. 1.

Ria Novosti wrote of speculation that a social media website called VKontakte.ru, which is similar to Facebook, could have hired Snowden, but a spokesperson would not comment.

As Snowden carries on, learning the Russian language, more information has surfaced about the National Security Agency reportedly breaking into communications links used by Yahoo and Google to collect user information.
