German shepherd with rare condition named after literary figure

A German shepherd who was living as a stray in Kentucky with a rare condition called short spine syndrome has taken the Internet by storm.

Quasimodo is one of the 14 dogs in the world diagnosed with this rare condition, which means he is missing several vertebrae.

When he was first rescued, the workers suspected that he was in bad shape from being trapped in a kennel for most of his life.

Despite having a rough start in life and a rough appearance, the dog was sweet, playful and tender, just like the protagonist of Victor Hugo’s 1831 ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ that he is named after.

Quasi suffers from some minor health problems from being a stray for so long, but he is getting treatment while living in a foster home and it happy and healthy.

You can follow his adventures on his Facebook page and keep your eyes out for when this sweet boy becomes available for adoption.
