America’s longest married couple to offer love advice this Valentine’s Day

For Valentine’s Day, America’s longest married couple wants to give lovebirds all the help they need.

Annie and John Betar, who ran away to get married on the heels of the Great Depression more than 83 years ago, know a little something about the works of a successful marriage.

The two, who have been together for over eight decades have 16 great-grandchildren, want to share what they’ve learned on Valentine’s Day through Twitter.

The couple will be offering their advice online, organized by a company named Handy, reports The Washington Post.

Although there are few exceptions to what they will answer, Annie and John are used to being asked how they’ve stayed content with one another for so long.

“We’re just lucky to be together. So fortunate,” John told The Washington Post.

“Live day to day within your means. Be content with what you have,” he said. “Don’t spend more than you have. Respect each other.”

John, who has seen the world change so vividly in the past century, realizes that if he was to meet Annie today, the process of courting would be a little different. He’d probably “Google her,” and then “text or call to ask her out.”
