While traffic jams are a common headache for motorist in Ireland, it’s not everyday that a giant minion causes you to be late for work.

A giant inflatable replica of Kevin, a minion character in the ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Minions’ films, flew loose on Monday afternoon causing a 15-minute traffic jam on the Old Swords Road in Dublin, reported the Telegraph.

“We got quite a shock,” witness Erin Van Londen told the Journal.ie. “Luckily it didn’t seem to cause much damage.”

The 40 ft minion was seen earlier this week getting inflated at a local fair when around 3 p.m. the yellow inflatable escaped from its restraints. It blew over in “very strong winds” and ended up blocking the four-lane road.

“I actually rang the gardai (police),” Van Londen told the Journal.ie. “It was quite an odd thing to have to report.”

The minion was eventually deflated and taken out of the way using a wheelbarrow.

Luckily, the incident caused no injuries but one driver did get his side mirror knocked off.

According to the Irish Times, Dublin city councillor Paul McAuliffe found the whole incident despicable and referred it to the planning enforcement department to investigate whether any safety measures were violated.

“I don’t want to sound like a killjoy, but if that had landed on a cyclist, for instance, it could have been serious,” he told the Irish Times.
