Head-on collision with a cement truck caught on dash cam video

A professor at Texas A&M University was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an extremely close call when a cement truck ran a red light, lost control and rolled over, hitting his van in a head on collision.

Dr. Guan Zhu had installed a dashboard camera in his car about a year ago, which captured the entire incident.

Zhu was driving his Toyota Sienna minivan north on Wellborn Road on when he came to a red light. While stopped at the Rock Prairie intersection, the cement truck ran the red light on the opposite side of the road. In an attempt to dodge a white pickup truck, it seems the driver lost control of the cement truck and plowed directly into Zhu’s minivan.

“I could not remember what happened. In my memory a truck is coming and I could not remember exactly how it happened and then the video says that’s how it happened,” Zhu said, laughing and feeling lucky to be alive.

Lucky for Zhu, he was not injured in the accident. The airbags of his minivan deployed and he only suffered a minor cut on his leg. His dash cam was also still intact.

The driver of the cement truck did not suffer any major injuries but he was issued a ticket at the scene of the accident, where it took the city several hours to clean up the spilled cement.

Word to the wise: never try to run the red … especially if you're driving a cement truck.
