A sweet video has captured a touching love story between a maternal dog and a pair of young rescued puppies staying at the same boarding kennel facility.

It involves an Australian shepherd mix named Maggie who broke out of her kennel at Barker’s Pet Motel and Grooming in St. Albert, Alta., to comfort two crying puppies, who recently arrived from an animal rescue centre, according to Barker’s Facebook page.

It all began when Barker’s owner Sandy Aldred and her family were headed out for dinner and left the puppies settled into their kennel, CBC News reports.

While out for dinner, Aldred happened to check the live feed camera from the kennel’s surveillance camera on her phone and found Maggie laying next to the puppies’ kennel.

“She paid them a lot of attention and you could see her little tail wagging. And she’d do the little bow down to them and poke them through the chain link gate of their room. She just decided that was where she was going to stay until we came to get her,“ Aldred told CBC News.

"It was really sweet. She just had to be with those puppies.”

To escape from her enclosure, Aldred told Global News that Maggie had to push her water bowl out of the way and squeeze out through the small opening.

When Aldred returned to the kennel, Maggie was waiting by the door and took her to the puppies’ cage, according to CBC News. Aldred let Maggie into the puppies’ kennel and the three instantly cuddled together.

Maggie’s own litter of puppies were recently adopted so it’s may be why her maternal instincts kicked in, CBC News reports.

Aldred told the news outlet she expects the two puppies will find homes soon.
