There's no need to head to a cemetery for a spook this Halloween, a new website can scare you right at home by digging up records of people who have died on your property.

Landlord Roy Condrey started the website DiedInHouse.com, which searches public records for information about who has died at your address, after a tenant thought his rental unit was haunted, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Condrey told the Chronicle he realized there was no simple way of finding out about deaths before buying a property, though in some states, such as Texas, homeowners are legally required to disclose any violent deaths.

An address search can inform buyers if their dream home was the site of a grim murder- suicide or even a celebrity death, such as Kurt Cobain's suicide.

The intention is to inform buyers about any happenings that could lower the value of the property in the eyes of the easily spooked, which might have been useful to the 2010 buyer of an office building in Kitchener-Waterloo, ON, who later sued the seller for joking in a newspaper interview that the building was haunted.

The judge ruled against the buyer, according to the Toronto Star, saying that he couldn't prove there were any ghosts on the property.

However, DiedInHouse.com is also useful for less practical purposes, such as terrifying yourself late at night on Oct. 31.

Go ahead, open that can of nightmares and see if you can sleep.
