‘I love lamp’: Pranked news anchors have ‘Ron Burgundy moment’

If your camera operator loves cats, it’s probably best not to speak against them.

Two NBC 26 Green Bay news anchors learned this lesson on-air.

After expressing their distaste for cat hair and mocking their camera operator, Tom, for letting his cats sleep in bed with him, the anchors attempted to transition to the next news story, only to find themselves pranked by the man they were teasing.

It appears that a fast-acting Tom raced to get even, giving them what is being called their very own “Ron Burgundy moment.”

Trusting that they would read whatever scrolled before them, Tom added an iconic line from the 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy to their teleprompter.

“In other news, I love lamp,” anchor Brian Niznansky read before cracking on camera.

(In the cult-hit comedy, anchorman Ron Burgundy has the reputation of reading anything that’s put on the teleprompter, something his nemesis uses to her advantage.)

While the prank was pulled in 2012, it’s going viral this week. (Ron Burgundy never goes out of style.)

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an Anchorman prank played out in real life.

This anchor failed to proofread her notes and suddenly found herself reading about cookies, and not footballers, while on the air.

And in 2008, Charles Barkley also received the Anchorman treatment — and called himself “a dumbass” on camera.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the basketball great found it funny.
