#JeSuisChien goes viral in tribute to police dog killed in Paris

Amidst a flurry of social media posts and breaking news, the death of one beloved police dog has taken over Twitter today, drawing condolences from around the world.

The Independent reports that Diesel, the seven-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed earlier Wednesday during a raid on suspected terrorists in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis. Diesel was a trained assault and explosive search dog.

The hashtag #JeSuisChien quickly spread across Twitter, with the official tweet regarding Diesel’s death being shared thousands of times in a few minutes, reports The Independent.

Police stormed several apartments in the early hours of Wednesday morning, a raid which ended with at least two suspects dead and seven others taken into custody. The suspects were said to be linked to the mass attacks on Friday, November 13.
