Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Chipotle releases its guacamole recipe

Good news, Chipotle fans! You no longer have to pay extra for Chipotle’s guacamole. Instead, you can go home and make it yourselves.

The Mexican restaurant just released its previously secret recipe for the beloved condiment — and it’s simpler than we thought it would be.

In fact, it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a guacamole recipe: avocados, lime juice, red onion, cilantro, salt and some finely chopped jalapeño.

“We know that you know that guac is extra, but have you ever thought about what makes it so delicious?” Chipotle wrote on their website.

“Well, it starts with sourcing the best whole ingredients possible, and ends with a quick mash in our restaurant. In fact, it’s so easy, we’re going to show you how to do it.”

Here’s the recipe, straight from the experts at Chipotle Mexican Grill:

2 ripe Hass avocados (In the restaurant, we use 48 per batch, multiple times per day)

2 tsp lime juice

2 tbsp cilantro (chopped)

¼ cup red onion (finely chopped)

½ jalapeño, including seeds (finely chopped)

¼ tsp kosher salt

How to do it:

1. Choose the right avocado. It should feel squishy yet firm (like the palm of your hand), and be a nice dark green colour on the inside.

2. Cut the avocado in half and the remove the pit (carefully!)

3. Scoop the avocados and place in a medium bowl.

4. Toss and coat with lime juice.

5. Add the salt and using a fork or potato masher, mash until a smooth consistency is achieved.

6. Fold in the remaining ingredients and mix well.

7. Taste the guacamole (over and over) and adjust seasoning if necessary.

The restaurant even produced a GIF to show fans how simple it is to whip up their own batch.

TIME warned calorie-counters that there’s 230 calories in each 4-ounce serving. (We’re not too scared. Avocados are good for us, right? If only chips were also a superfood…)

Last month, PopSugar writers visited the Chipotle kitchen to learn to make guacamole with founder Steve Ells. Their guac lesson revealed a slightly different recipe than the one posted on the website: a mix of lemon and lime juice instead of straight lime, and chopped serrano chili peppers, not jalapeños. So maybe Chipotle isn’t quite revealing everything after all?

What’s in your secret guacamole recipe? (I’m a fan of this no-fail crowd-pleaser.)
