Man with giant ‘murder’ tattoo wants it removed before his murder trial

Jeffrey Chapman of Barton County, Kansas, would like his "Murder" tattoo removed in advance of his murder trial.

Nothing says, “I didn’t do it” like a tattoo that says 'murder' scrolled across your neck.

Jeffrey Chapman of Barton County, Kansas, is charged with first-degree murder and is worried that his tattoo that says “murder” in across his neck might sway a jury against him at his trial.

For his upcoming trial for a killing in 2011, he is asking that a professional tattoo artist removes the tattoo, or at least cover it up.

The tattoo that spans across the surface of Chapman’s neck says ‘murder’ in giant mirrored letters. We’ve seen some bad tattoos, but this guy takes the cake.

Even though prosecutors aren’t against Chapman covering his tattoo, Barton County’s sheriff is against transporting him to a licensed tattoo facility where, under Kansas law, is the only place that tattoo artists are allowed to practice their trade.

Chapman’s lawyer is looking into the possibility of having the state bring in a tattoo artist to remove or cover the giant tattoo. Prosecutors are not on board with this idea, again referring to the Kansas State law that tattoo artists can only work in a licensed facility.

Chapman’s trial is scheduled to begin on Monday for the death of Damon Galliart, whose body was found by hunters in a ditch on the side of the road.

Chapman’s attorney worries that the tattoo would be extremely prejudicial if seen by a jury.

Hmmm ... you think??
