Man named Fudge accused in cake, ice cream theft

A man accused of stealing cake and ice cream from an Iowa City store has an unfortunate connection to his chosen booty: his name is Conor P. Fudge.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported a man stole $501 worth of cake, ice cream containers and money at a Cold Stone Creamery on Sept.11 and Sept. 12. Fudge, a 25-year-old former employee of the ice cream shop, has been charged with third degree burglary and third degree theft in connection with the case.

Police said he unlocked the door using an unauthorized key, according to the Associated Press.

While the argument that dessert is part of his identity probably wouldn't hold up in court, headline writers everywhere are rejoicing, no doubt thankful Fudge isn't accused of stealing something more valuable, like jewelry or a car — or anything that wouldn't melt in the getaway car on the drive home and lend itself nicely to dessert puns.

Fudge isn't the first suspect with charges that match his name: last year, police sought a man with the same name as the meth-manufacturing lead character of AMC's show Breaking Bad, Walter White, for violating his probation after he was convicted of manufacturing methamphetamine.
