Man sets record for longest birthday ever

Sven Hagemeier from Germany decided to celebrate his 26th birthday by breaking a world record.

Last year on August 5, he set the Guinness World Record for the longest birthday by flying between times zones.

He kept his special day going for 46 hours by flying from Auckland, New Zealand, to Brisbane, Australia, and then to Honolulu, Hawaii, where his wife was waiting for him, reported TIME.

“I’ve known Guinness World Records since my childhood and I am a huge fan,” Hagemeier told the Guinness World Records. “After I found the perfect record for me, I felt confident I could become a record holder.”

In reality, Hagemeier’s time in the air was much shorter than the 46 hours achieved from jumping time zones. It was only about 13 hours and 10 minutes, reported the Telegraph.

Regardless, the record certificate was “an incredible present.”

There was a downside though. His elongated birthday celebration probably wasn’t cheap or too comfortable.

He spent the majority of the time on the plane, eating airline food and sitting for hours.

He did, however, get a short tour of Auckland from taxi driver, Khan. In just an hour and a half, Khan showed him some of the city’s highlights.

“You will get help, wherever you are in the world,” Hagemeier told Guinness.

When he finally landed in Hawaii at midnight, he knew he had successfully beaten the previous record holder.

Back in June 1998, Nargis Bhimji from Karachi, Pakistan celebrated her birthday for 35 hours and 25 minutes by flying from Karachi to Singapore to San Francisco.

This year, Hagemeier celebrated his 27th birthday the more traditional way, at home with family and friends.
