Man wakes up in body bag hours after being pronounced dead

“I now pronounce you ... dead.”

You wake up to the smell of formaldehyde and realize you’re trapped … in a body bag, zipped up, and ready to be embalmed.

This is just a scary dream for many people, but for one Mississippi man, this nightmare was all too real.

Walter Williams, of Lexington, Mississippi was literally found alive and kicking inside one of the body bags at a Porter and Sons Funeral Home. Declared dead on Wednesday night by the county coroner, Williams’ body was taken to the funeral home and was set to be embalmed later Thursday morning. Well, it’s a good thing Mr. Williams woke up by then!

“I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up,” Williams’ nephew, Eddie Hester, told WAPT News.

Williams was rushed to a nearby hospital after funeral home employees had heard him kicking from inside the body bag trying to free himself.

Wouldn’t that be a sight to see? You go to work at the funeral home one morning and you see one of the body bags frantically moving. Yup, nightmares forever.

The coroner believes the reason Williams appeared dead is because his pacemaker briefly stopped working. He was declared dead, and then his pacemaker must have started back up again … while he was in the body bag.

His family couldn’t be happier.

“I don’t know how long he’s going to be here, but I know he’s back right now. That’s all that matter,” Hester said.

I bet Mr. Williams is getting a few tighter hugs today!
